In order to support Asian scholars for research and other academic activities in their own countries, the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS) began establishing “Asia Research Centers (ARCs)” since 2001 at various leading academic institutions in the region.
Currently, there are fifteen ARCs across seven countries including China,Mongolia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Through the ARCs, local researchers are provided support for research projects, academic conferences, publication of research findings, and other academic activities.
KFAS and the fifteen institutions share the understanding that academic development and mutual understanding among Asian nations are necessary for a balanced and continued growth of Asia. All parties involved also acknowledge that providing support for research and promoting international exchange among Asian scholars must be encouraged for scientific advancement in the region
