Aim

The Asia Research Center Directors' Workshop is held annually to provide a venue for the directors and related persons to discuss effective ARC operation methods.. Participants are encouraged to have candid discussions on different methodologies in executing various plans and activities of the ARCs and exchange new ideas for the future. Information on the latest changes of the ARCs are shared; upcoming academic events such as conferences are announced to encourage active participation by all related individuals.

When the Workshop is Hosted

The Asia Research Center Directors' Workshop is held on an annual basis, usually in the second half of the year.

The first meeting was hosted by Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies in October 2003. Subsequent workshops have been organized by Asia Research Centers with the financial support of the foundation.

The workshop dates may vary depending on the location of the center, organizing the workshop. For example, the 2004 workshop was organized by the Asia Research Center at the National University of Mongolia in July as the month offers the most comfortable climate. The workshops in 2005, 2006, and 2007, which were held in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, were hosted in late November and mid-December during dry season in Southeast Asia.

During the workshop period, the forthcoming workshop dates and organizer are usually announced.

Who Participates

It is strongly recommended that all directors of the Asia Research Centers participate in the annual workshop. Chairpersons of the Board of Trustees for the Asia Research Centers and other related persons such as the trustee members are also encouraged to attend the workshop along with the directors. If a director is unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances, the organizers should be informed in advance by a formal letter.

Each center should send a delegation of three persons including the director unless recommended otherwise. If a center makes a special request for more than three delegates, the host and Korean Foundation for Advanced Studies should discuss the case.
