International Academic Program

Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies

Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies is in the second phase of its 100- year academic plan. During the first 30-year phase, the primary objective was to cultivate world-class scholars to contributes to the academic development of Korea.

With achievements from the scholarship program, KFAS began to recognize a serious lack of academic interactions in the Asian region. To address this problem, KFAS initiated the International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF) program, established Asia Research Centers(ARC), and launched co-hosted international academic conferences such as Beijing Forum and Shanghai Forum. Through these programs, scholars from numerous institutions and universities across Asia are encouraged to explore and exchange ideas. KFAS is taking new steps to widen its horizons in the 21st century and think beyond borders to promote greater mutual understanding and balanced growth in our world.

International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF)

KFAS invites approximately 50 Asian scholars to Korea every year for a mid / long-term project in collaboration with professors and researchers at leading universities and academic institutions in Korea. This program is designed not only to support individual scholars’ research, but also to enhance academic mutual understanding and promote cooperation and development in Asia.

Asia Research Centers (ARC)

KFAS has established 17 Asia Research Centers (ARCs) at leading universities and academic research institutions in Asia , mainly in China. Through the establishment of ARCs, scholars are enabled to focus on research activities in their own countries in conjunction with having the opportunities to exchange their knowledge with scholars in other ARC through publications and forums.

International Academic Forums

KFAS sponsors international academic forums which serve to aid the advancement of academics, humanity and society. These annual forums mobilize global leaders, thinkers, experts, and academicians from each field. Beijing Forum is an academic conference that focuses on the advancement of cultures and civilizations, and Shanghai Forum centers on economics and business. These forums are world-class international events that are held in collaboration with leading international universities.
