Doctoral Study Abroad Program

Since 1974

This program was established in 1974 to support talented young students in social sciences, natural sciences, computer science, and information technology-related fields. The program enables the students to pursue and successfully complete their doctorates at leading overseas research universities. This fellowship is granted without obligations. It aims to allow students to fully devote themselves to their studies.

Eligibility Korean citizens currently in their senior year of college, or are enrolled in a graduate school in Korea;
Fields of Study Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Number of Admitted Students Annually, approximately 30 recipients are selected
Admission Process First round: Written examinations in English and in the applicant's field of study
Second round: Applicants who have successfully passed the first round of examinations are invited to a final interview
Material Required for Application The application and letters of recommendation must be submitted online
Official undergraduate/graduate academic transcripts
Official TOEFL score
Academic journal publications, research reports, papers and other supplemental materials may be submitted, but are not required
Selection period August of each year

Training program

Students who are selected for the Doctoral Study Abroad program must participate in a training program once a week for two semesters beginning in September. This one-year program is designed to help students prepare for their graduate studies abroad. The students are supported with a monthly stipend during this period. Upon completion of this program, candidates are re-evaluated and selected for the Doctoral Study Abroad program.

Scholarship awarded

The scholarship includes tuition, health insurance and a stipend. The scholarship amounts vary depending on whether or not the students will receive grants or financial assistance from the universities they will be attending.
