World Policy Conference 2017



November 3-5, 2017 / Marrakesh, Morocco


Hosted by IFRI (French Institute of International Relations), World Policy Conference was held for the tenth time on November 3rd to 5th, 2017 in Marrakesh, Morocco.  IFRI is a leading think tank in France founded and chaired by Thierry de Montbrial since 1979.  This year’s conference was composed of sixteen sessions and four special workshops.  The topics were as follows.

Workshop “China with new challenges”


The workshop on “China with new challenges” was moderated by President Park In-kook of Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies in the afternoon of November 4th.  The three-hour workshop discussed outcomes of the 19th Party Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and projectionis for President Xi Jinping’s second term.  The workshop also shed light on the future trajectory of China-US relations in light of bilateral trade and North Korea nuclear issues.  Other issues included Moody’s and S&P downgrading of China’s sovereign credit rating in May and September, respectively, in addition to economic and trade issues concerning China and Asia.  China’s ambitious One Belt One Road Initiative—otherwise known as Belt and Road Initiative—was also discussed.  The participants of the workshop were as follows:
